FAQ

FAQs

What's the difference between a deductible and a premium?

Your premium is what you pay to keep your insurance policy active. Your deductible is the amount you pay out of pocket before your insurance coverage kicks in for a covered claim. You pay your premium whether or not you file a claim, while your deductible typically only applies when you have a covered loss.

Will filing a claim raise my rates?

It can, depending on the type of policy, the circumstances of the claim, and your claims history. Multiple claims within a short period can also affect your rates or insurability. For smaller losses, it may make sense to consider your deductible and potential impact on your policy before filing. Your insurance agent can help you weigh your options.

What does "liability coverage" actually protect?

Liability coverage can help protect you financially if you’re legally responsible for injuring someone or damaging their property. Depending on the policy, it may help cover medical expenses, property damage, legal defense, and other related costs up to your policy limits. Liability coverage generally does not cover your own injuries or property damage.

When can I first enroll in Medicare?

You also can enroll in medicare once you have received Social Security Disability payments for 24 months.

Do I really need insurance if I have an LLC?

An LLC can provide certain legal protections, but it doesn’t replace business insurance. Your business may still be responsible for things like property damage, injuries, professional mistakes, or other covered risks. The right insurance can provide financial protection where your business structure alone may not.

How often should I review my insurance coverage?

It’s a good idea to review your coverage at least once a year, but you don’t have to wait for renewal. Changes to your home, family, business, vehicles, or finances can all affect the protection you need. A regular review gives you an opportunity to make sure your coverage still reflects where you are today.

What changes should I tell my insurance agent about?

It’s worth checking in with your agent when something significant changes. Buying a home or vehicle, adding a new driver, remodeling your property, starting a business, hiring employees, or changing how your business operates can all affect your coverage. When in doubt, it’s better to ask before a change creates a gap in your protection.
